Conservation

Towerlig is commited to contribute awareness of the importance of nature conservation.

Betty's Bay, Kogelberg biosphere awareness programme

Protecting the Kogelberg biosphere (map of reserve) (Rooi Els, Hangklip, Betty's Bay, Kleinmond) will hopefully remain a feature of my life. I have established a programme of concerts to raise awarenss to promote protection of the reserve and the natural environment of the residential area by visitors and residents alike.

See the 'Lets keep Betty's Bay natural!'.

The picture on the home page was taken on the beach between Betty's Bay and Hangklip, the one at the bottom of the page at Kogelbaai.

'Fynbos Calling!' and 'Trees for life' projects

I produced two recording projects related to the preservation and protection of the local ecological and cultural environment.

The aim of these two titles for my previous production company, Afrimusik, and its Heritage of Africa series was to raise support for conservation with inspiring and uplifting music.

Fynbos Calling raised awareness for the threatCape Fynbos, particularly in the Kogelberg reserve. Read more about this project (Extract from my essay for the CD booklet).
'Fynbos Calling', released in 2002, contained Baroque Period music set next to indigenous African music, and makes for a fresh look at local and European musical cultures. The CD-Rom section with video and slide presentation of fynbos drove the message home.

'Fynbos Calling' has been re-released on my co-producer's label Mucavi in October 2004.

The lyrics I wrote for the Aboqondisi Brothers song ‘Trees for life’ (mp3)reflects my feelings about conservation.
Visit the Heritage for Africa link for more information on both these projects.

Trees for Life

Oh trees for life - See them grow
Spirit is calling us - Make them grow
They are our young ones - Help them grow
They are our future - Bless their soul

Vikelani konke, vikelan’okuhle
Vikelani konke, vikelan’ imithi
(Protect all, protect the beautiful things. Protect the trees.
They are God’s nature. They are beautiful things).
